Repair Cafes, a new step in sustainability?

What is a Repair Cafe?

Repair Cafés are free meeting places that offers tools, materials and people to help you repair things. Repair Cafes can help you repair all sorts of things such as clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, toys and much more. Don’t know how to make the repair? Repair Cafes also have expert volunteers, with repair skills for all sorts of things!

Repair Cafes are all about community so even if you have nothing of your own that needs fixing you can volunteer to help others, socialize and read books on how to learn repairs and DIY! Repair Cafes are giving people a new way to learn skills to help build a more sustainable future.

How does it help you be more sustainable?

We throw away a lot of stuff, even things that are easily fixable but a lot of people have forgotten that they can repair things or don’t know how. Planned obsolescence is a growing problem in our society and unfortunately things just often aren’t built to last anymore and even if they are we’re all getting far too comfortable just buying a new one instead of salvaging what we already have.

Repair Café’s initiative is out to fix it! Invaluable practical skills are passed on and taught to extend your products life cycle and keep it out of the landfill. Repairing items can reduce the need for new raw materials and energy needed to make new products reducing CO2 emissions. Repair Café volunteers even visit schools to give repair lessons
